Edo senatorial candidate promises to revamp education, eliminate ASUU strike via legislation

Mr Anslem Eragbe, the Edo North Senatorial District candidate for Labour Party, has promised to revamp Nigeria’s educational sector and eliminate industrial action through legislation if elected in 2023.

Eragbe, at the Edo North Senatorial District Candidate meeting in Abuja, said he is a product of free and quality education offered by the government then and pledged to restore it.

CBN releases $3.5bn for foreign education under Buhari

Data obtained from the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Sunday revealed that Nigeria’s educational sector suffered massive capital flight during the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd).

Specifically, using the CBN’s balance of payment statistics, Nigerians have spent a hefty sum of $3.5bn on foreign education in the past seven years (June 2015 to August 2022).

Many diabetics die early due to lack of education – Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday blamed lack of education in managing diabetes for the reason why many patients die untimely.

Barcelona students to take mandatory climate crisis module from 2024

All students at the University of Barcelona will have to take a mandatory course on the climate crisis after the establishment agreed to meet the demands of activists conducting a sit-in occupation.

In a move thought to be a world first, all 14,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students will have to take the course from the 2024 academic year. It will also devise a training programme on climate issues for its 6,000 academic staff.

Gov. Bello inaugurates distribution of free textbooks to students

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi inaugurated the distribution of 11,000 free textbooks to all high school students (SSS 2) in public schools across the state.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the free Chemistry and Physics textbooks were sponsored and donated by Alh. Ahmed Ododo, Kogi Auditor General for Local Government, in support of the State Government School Adoption and Mentoring Program.

Rector bags award, seeks upgrade of polytechnics

Dr. Dayo Oladebeye, Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti, has called on the Federal Government to improve infrastructure facilities and upgrade equipment in the country’s Polytechnics.

Oladebeye made the call in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency shortly after receiving the ‘Change Agent of the Year’ award, ‘Awareness for Good Leadership, Peace and Development’, on Sunday in Abuja.

NI Education: Schools warned over not vetting substitute teachers

Over 40 schools have been warned about employing teachers who have not fully completed criminal records checks.

All school staff, including teachers, have to complete pre-employment vetting before they can work with children.
