The Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja inaugurated the new executives of the Student Union Government (SUG) and the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) for the 2024/2025 academic session on Monday, November 4, 2024.
The ceremony, held at the 200 Twin Lecture Theatre, brought together Polytechnic officials and students to celebrate the incoming leaders and emphasize their commitment to student welfare. Professor Salisu Usman, the Rector, congratulated the newly elected leaders and encouraged them to lead by example, avoid divisive practices, and prioritize the well-being of students.
During his address, Professor Usman commended the Electoral Committee for conducting a transparent election and praised those who conceded for their sportsmanship. He reminded the new leaders of their responsibility to strengthen student unity, and he warned them against succumbing to external influences. The Polytechnic administration, he assured, is committed to supporting student welfare and creating a conducive environment for all students. In a show of unity and support, key Polytechnic figures, including the Dean of Student Services, Dr. John Aliyu, and the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Onuh, urged the new executives to foster peaceful coexistence and uphold the institution’s values.
In their acceptance speeches, SUG President Enimokanyi Janet and NAKOSS President Abubakar Isah Sheriff expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve. Janet pledged to raise the standards of student unionism and advocate for student interests, while Sheriff promised to ensure the representation of Kogi State indigenes within the Polytechnic. The event concluded with the administration of oaths of office and the issuance of certificates of return to the new leaders, symbolizing a new chapter in student governance at Kogi State Polytechnic.
