First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has partnered with EStars to bring esports education to Nigerian schools, targeting students aged seven to 14.

The initiative aims to equip young Nigerians with essential digital-age skills, including teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, through structured gaming activities. EStars, which launched its esports platform in Nigeria in July 2024, offers tools for tournament management, team collaboration, and resources for integrating esports into school curricula.

FCMB Managing Director Yemisi Edun described the initiative as a blend of fun and innovation that aligns with the bank’s commitment to youth development and education. “At FCMB, we are preparing the next generation with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven world,” she said. EStars founder Mags Byrne echoed this, emphasizing the potential of esports to provide young minds with valuable career pathways in the growing industry.

The partnership aims to bridge traditional education and the booming esports sector, with schools adopting esports as extracurricular activities or embedding it into STEM-focused curricula. The program also garnered support from the British Deputy High Commissioner, Jonny Baxter, who highlighted esports’ economic significance during the platform’s launch. The initiative is poised to prepare Nigerian students for opportunities in the global digital economy.
