North West University, Kano, has expelled 41 students and rusticated 18 others for their involvement in examination malpractices during the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The university’s Senate reached the decision during its 56th regular meeting on December 30, 2024, after thoroughly reviewing recommendations from the Central Examination Misconduct Committee.

The decision was communicated through a circular dated January 3, 2025, signed by Jafaru Sule Muhammad, Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records, on behalf of the Registrar. The circular stated that the expelled and rusticated students were found guilty of violating the institution’s examination policies, which aim to uphold academic integrity.

In addition to the expulsions and rustications, 42 students received written warnings, while two students were cleared of all charges. The affected students hail from faculties such as Basic Medical Science, Science, Computing, Education, Social and Management Sciences, and Humanities. The university reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high academic standards and deterring malpractice in its academic environment.
