The Old Boys Association of Government College Kaduna (KADOBA) has called on Governor Uba Sani to discontinue the use of the school premises as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp. The group argues that the arrangement has adversely affected the quality of education by limiting space, classrooms, and other vital facilities for students.

The appeal was made during a press conference marking the 20th anniversary of the Class of 2004’s graduation. Speaking at the event held at the school premises in Abakpa, KADOBA’s Class of 2004 Chairman, Engr. AbdurRahman Musa, urged Governor Sani to prioritize education by relocating the NYSC camp. He noted that the original purpose of using the school as an NYSC and civil defence training camp—addressing security concerns—has been mitigated by improvements in security under the governor’s administration.

“With the improved security situation, we believe it is time to return the corps members to their permanent orientation camp along the Kaduna-Abuja road,” Musa said. He emphasized the need to restore dormitories and learning facilities to students, commending Governor Sani’s efforts in enhancing security and his commitment to education.

KADOBA’s National President, Yusuf Muhammad, expressed concern over the school’s declining enrolment and infrastructure. “Government College Kaduna was once a premier institution producing distinguished leaders. Today, with less than 300 students across all classes and 70 to 80 per cent of its facilities repurposed, the school is a shadow of its former self,” he lamented.

The association appealed to Governor Sani to act swiftly, restoring the school to its former glory and ensuring students receive quality education in a conducive environment. “We trust in the governor’s accessible and people-centered approach to address this pressing issue,” Muhammad added.
