The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, has expressed concern over ongoing disputes within the university’s alumni association. Speaking in Ilorin during the inauguration of the newly constituted University Advancement Board, Egbewole urged the alumni to focus on contributing positively to the institution rather than engaging in internal conflicts.

“An Alumni Association worth its salt should assist the university rather than create issues or bring the university into disrepute,” Egbewole remarked. He emphasized the need for alumni to give back to their alma mater and avoid bickering over positions or personal benefits.

The Advancement Board, according to the vice chancellor, has been established to provide strategic guidance, foster resource mobilization, and strengthen partnerships that will propel UNILORIN to greater heights. “This board will enhance institutional visibility, advocate for the university on national and international platforms, and guide priorities in areas such as infrastructure, academic excellence, and community development,” he stated.

Dr. Abdulwahab Ibrahim, chairman of the board, pledged the members’ commitment to advancing UNILORIN’s growth and development. He assured that the board would leverage its diverse expertise across academia, industry, and government to add value to the institution, particularly as it prepares to celebrate its golden jubilee in 2025. The vice chancellor reaffirmed the university’s support for the board’s initiatives to achieve their vision for UNILORIN’s advancement.
