The Lagos State Government has issued a stern directive to all unregistered and unapproved private schools within the state, mandating immediate registration with the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA). The announcement, made through a statement by Mr. Remi Abdul, Coordinating Director of OEQA, emphasized the consequences of non-compliance, including potential sanctions.

The directive was reiterated by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, who highlighted the benefits of registration. According to the statement, schools that comply will gain official recognition and access to the state government’s technical and financial support. They will also remain updated on emerging policies and initiatives from both Lagos State and the Federal Government.

The statement noted that the rapid growth in private schools across Lagos necessitates robust registration and documentation processes to ensure effective monitoring and adherence to education standards. It emphasized that the state is determined to maintain its commitment to providing quality education for all learners, regardless of their institution of choice.

“Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the OEQA, is committed to ensuring that all learners receive quality education,” the statement read. “We will not hesitate to take action against any institution that fails to register.” The government’s warning underscores its resolve to uphold educational standards and improve the learning environment across the state.
