Plateau State University (PLASU) has received approval from regulatory authorities to introduce six new academic programmes, marking a significant step in its mission to broaden its academic horizons. The newly approved programmes include Medical Sciences (MBBS), Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm D.), Statistics (B.Sc.), and Religious Studies (B.A.). Additionally, professional accreditation has been secured for Law and Nursing Science degrees from the Council of Legal Education and the Nursing Council, respectively.

The announcement was made by the Acting Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s senate, Prof. Shedrack Gaya Best, during the 92nd Regular Senate meeting held on January 10, 2025. Prof. Best attributed this milestone to the steadfast support of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, whose commitment has significantly contributed to the university’s progress. “We are pleased to announce that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for all these programmes after a rigorous resource verification process conducted last year,” Prof. Best stated.

The Vice Chancellor also expressed gratitude to the regulatory authorities for their collaboration in advancing learning at PLASU. He reaffirmed the university management’s commitment to improving staff welfare to ensure enhanced productivity. Meanwhile, updates on the resumption of academic activities following the holiday break were presented to the senate. These included ongoing measures to enhance campus security, such as issuing student ID cards and facilitating access to hostel accommodations for eligible students.

As PLASU continues to expand its academic offerings, it remains dedicated to delivering quality education and fostering a safe and conducive learning environment. The approval of these new programmes is expected to attract more students and strengthen the university’s position as a hub for academic excellence in Plateau State and beyond.
