Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing educational quality, unveiling plans to establish additional Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state. The announcement was made during a visit by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, to the Lagos House in Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu revealed that sizable plots of land in Ojo, FESTAC, Ikorodu, and Mile 12 have been earmarked for the construction of the new CBT centres. This initiative aims to support JAMB’s mission and improve access for candidates in Lagos, a state that accounts for 15% of all Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates nationwide. Emphasising the importance of education in economic growth, the governor highlighted several state initiatives, including the Teacher’s Merit Award, which rewards educators with training, cash incentives, and vehicles.

The governor also commended Prof. Oloyede for his transformative leadership at JAMB, praising his dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence. He assured continued collaboration between Lagos State and JAMB to advance educational opportunities for the youth, expressing optimism about the transformative potential of such partnerships. “Together, I believe we can achieve significant milestones to benefit our state and the entire country by enhancing the educational landscape and creating opportunities for our youths,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

In response, Prof. Oloyede expressed gratitude for the Lagos State Government’s support and emphasised the need for more CBT centres in the state. He highlighted the disparity between the high number of candidates from Lagos and the limited CBT facilities, appealing for continued collaboration, including assistance in relocating JAMB’s office from Ikoyi to a more central location. Oloyede also stressed the importance of sensitisation programmes to better prepare students for examinations, calling on the state’s partnership to ensure success.
