The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the knowledge economy and fostering a highly resourceful population through significant investments in education. According to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, the Ododo administration is building on the educational foundations laid by the previous administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello to ensure equal learning opportunities for all children, regardless of their backgrounds.
Fanwo emphasized that education in Kogi State is free from primary to secondary levels, with the government covering all internal and external examination fees. Additionally, thousands of students in higher institutions benefit from state-funded bursaries. He noted that Kogi State has outspent 23 other states in education in 2025, reinforcing its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most education-focused states. Furthermore, the signing of the Education Bill into law guarantees the continuation of free education and bursaries, ensuring that future administrations uphold these policies.
Highlighting higher education developments, Fanwo pointed out the establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara and Kogi State University in Kabba. These institutions provide new academic opportunities for secondary school graduates, particularly in science, technology, and healthcare. He added that CUSTECH’s recent accreditation for MBBS would revolutionize healthcare delivery in the state, while ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the Smart Lecture Halls, Senate Building, and security installations, aim to create a safe and conducive learning environment.
In addition, the Nigerian-Korean Friendship Institute is training hundreds of youths in various technical fields, equipping them with the skills to become job creators. With five new gas plants recently launched in the state, Fanwo emphasized that Kogi’s rich mineral resources and industrial expansion will provide graduates with competitive opportunities in an evolving economy.
