Yaba, Lagos – In a groundbreaking effort to combat food insecurity among students, the leadership of the Student Union Government (SUG) of Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech) has launched the Feed YabaTech Student Initiative. The initiative, which is the first of its kind in the school’s history, aims to provide food relief to 2,000 students, including those living with disabilities.

As part of the program, students received food items such as noodles and vouchers to purchase essential food supplies at a subsidized rate. The initiative was driven by a commitment to alleviate the economic strain on students, particularly amid rising food prices.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the President of the SUG, Morakinyo Sola, emphasized that the program was designed out of a passion for student welfare.

“This is the first time in the history of the school that we are putting together the Feed YabaTech Student Initiative. It is borne out of a desire to support our fellow students. Our goal is to distribute food packages to at least 2,000 students, including those with disabilities,” he said.

Morakinyo further called on the federal and state governments to step in and provide additional food support for undergraduates, noting the increasing cost of essential goods.

The initiative has been widely praised by students, with many describing it as a timely intervention. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the effort, stating that it would go a long way in easing their financial burden.

With this initiative, the YabaTech SUG has set a precedent for student-led welfare programs, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in addressing pressing challenges within the student community.
