Ado-Ekiti – Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, has urged governments, corporate organizations, and philanthropists to invest more significantly in education, emphasizing its critical role in national development. The senator made this call during the 29th convocation ceremony of Ekiti State University, where he was conferred with a Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa).

Bamidele highlighted the transformative power of quality education in driving socio-economic growth, citing examples of developed and emerging nations that have strategically leveraged education to fulfill their national aspirations. He stressed the necessity of creating a competitive and enabling environment, combined with purposeful public investments and strategic private sector support, to nurture global billionaires and renowned brands.

“Education unlocks limitless opportunities across all sectors, liberates minds, and transforms generations. Investing in people is not just a necessity but a responsibility for those who envision national progress and long-term development,” Bamidele stated.

He challenged both public and private stakeholders to renew their commitment to investing in education, urging them to reassess their strategies and implement policies that will result in meaningful educational advancements.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Ayodele Joseph, acknowledged Bamidele’s contributions to the institution. He highlighted key projects facilitated by the senator, including the construction of student hostels, a mini stadium, and an FM radio station. Additionally, he noted that through Bamidele’s interventions, the university’s monthly subvention had increased from N260 million to N410 million, significantly boosting the institution’s financial stability.

Bamidele’s call for educational investment aligns with broader efforts to enhance Nigeria’s education system, ensuring that future generations are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for global competitiveness.
