The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Carl Adams, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to pioneering innovation and skill-driven education during its second matriculation ceremony held on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, Professor Adams highlighted the university’s rapid strides in integrating cutting-edge technology and practical skills into all academic programmes, setting a new standard for tertiary education in Nigeria.

“We have developed a whole bunch of new technologies. We’ve got seven patents on the go, and we’re not even two years old yet,” he revealed. “What that means is that we’re bringing the best technologies, the best learning materials, the best facilities to support our students.”

Professor Adams, a globally respected figure in Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasized that the university’s model is not built on borrowing foreign solutions, but rather on creating indigenous technologies that address local and global challenges.

“We want Nigeria to be at the forefront of technology development and application. Technology on its own is just a paperweight. It is how you use it, and that is what we are embedding — those skills, how to use that technology,” he said.

From 3D printing to the design of innovative products, the institution is actively training students to think creatively and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. According to the VC, this hands-on approach ensures that graduates are not just knowledgeable, but also highly impactful.

He also noted that the university is conducting advanced research across diverse fields including space technology, sickle cell disease, and satellite systems — with significant progress being made in AI deployment and satellite innovations.

Professor Adams concluded by expressing confidence that the university’s unique approach to education will help reposition Nigeria as a global leader in technological development.
