Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has flagged off the distribution of 30,000 free school uniforms to female students in public schools across the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to promoting girl-child education. The launch took place at the Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jahun, where the governor emphasized the importance of empowering girls through education as a catalyst for societal development.

Namadi stated that the gesture aligns with his administration’s policy of providing free education for girls from primary to university level. In addition to the uniforms, sporting materials were also distributed to encourage extracurricular and physical development among students. “Educating a girl-child is one of the most powerful tools for societal development. When you educate a woman, you educate a nation,” the governor said.

He underscored the critical role women play in shaping the future of society, highlighting that women are central to family and community development. “They are the ones who guide and support their children’s learning. Therefore, investing in their education is a decision of immeasurable value,” Namadi added. He also noted that billions of naira have been committed to school renovations, teacher training, and procurement of learning materials.

Education, the governor stressed, remains a core pillar of his administration’s 12-point development agenda, with 32% of last year’s budget and 26.7% of this year’s allocation dedicated to the sector. Among the notable initiatives is the ₦67 billion Jigawa Unite Project, a five-year programme in partnership with a UK-based institution aimed at integrating ICT in classrooms, enhancing teacher capacity, and creating a more conducive learning environment across the state.
