In a disturbing development that has sent shockwaves across Kano State, eleven students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, have been arrested in connection with the gruesome killing of two of their schoolmates, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa.
According to the Kano State Police Command, the two victims were allegedly attacked with locally made sharp metal objects, known as ‘Gwale-Gwale’, in what appears to be a brutal act of violence within the school premises.
Confirming the arrests, the spokesperson of the police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, stated that the 11 suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the extent of their involvement.
“This is a very tragic and serious case. We are determined to get to the root of the matter. Anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law,” Haruna emphasized, noting that justice will be served to bring closure to the grieving families.
The shocking incident has drawn strong condemnation from both state authorities and the general public, prompting the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Ali Makoda, to order a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. He expressed dismay over the breakdown of discipline and safety in the school and vowed to restore order.
In a similar tone, the Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Abbas Abdullahi, expressed deep concern, urging students across the state to shun violence and refrain from taking laws into their own hands.
“This is not just a school tragedy; it’s a societal concern. We must all join hands to reorient our youths and promote a culture of peace and mutual respect,” Abdullahi stated.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has assured citizens that it will “leave no stone unturned” in the quest for justice, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reportedly monitoring the case closely.
