The Federal University Dutse (FUD) is set to significantly expand its academic offerings following the approval of 26 new programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), effective from the 2025/2026 academic session.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, who confirmed that the approval followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by NUC teams. The teams assessed the university’s readiness in terms of faculty strength, facilities, and other critical infrastructure.
The NUC’s approval, conveyed in a letter signed by its Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, and addressed to FUD Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammed, reflects growing confidence in the university’s capacity to deliver high-quality academic programmes that respond to national and global needs.
Among the newly introduced undergraduate programmes are B.Sc. Food Science and Technology, B.A. Arabic, B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, and B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics—courses designed to meet emerging demands in science, industry, and culture.
At the postgraduate level, the NUC gave the nod for Ph.D. programmes in Chemistry, Mathematics, Crop Science, Animal Science, Animal Production, Political Science, Criminology and Security Studies, Biochemistry, Human Physiology, and English. Also approved are postgraduate diploma (PGD), Master’s, and Ph.D. programmes in specialised areas such as Environmental Management and Toxicology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Soil Science, and Human Anatomy.
FUD’s expansion into the field of business and management studies also received a major boost, with the introduction of PGD, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Management and Taxation; a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA); and a Master’s in Taxation and Fiscal Policy. These programmes aim to equip graduates with critical knowledge for leadership in finance, governance, and economic development.
Notably, the university also secured approval for new programmes in social development, including PGD and Master’s in Civil Society in Development, and a Master’s in Criminal Justice and Security Administration, reflecting a growing recognition of the importance of civic leadership and institutional accountability.
Reacting to the development, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammed expressed profound gratitude to the NUC for its continued support. He commended the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, alongside all departments involved, for their commitment and hard work during the rigorous accreditation process.
“This is a remarkable milestone for the Federal University Dutse,” he said. “These approvals reflect our resolve to grow strategically and deliver cutting-edge knowledge that empowers our students and contributes to national development. I urge all academic units to uphold the highest standards in implementing these programmes.”
