The Bakaro Dangikka Primary School Old Boys Association in Bauchi has thrown its support behind Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Development, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, urging him to contest for the governorship of Bauchi State in 2027.
In a statement signed by the association’s secretary, Umar Musa, and made available to journalists in Bauchi, the group described Professor Pate as the ideal candidate to usher in a new era of progressive, people-focused leadership in the state.
Titled “Why Bauchi Needs Professor Ali Pate as Governor 2027”, the statement highlighted Professor Pate’s outstanding career in public service, both in Nigeria and on the global stage, citing his proven capacity for reforms, policy innovation, and results-driven governance.
According to the group, “It is time for Bauchi State to be led by a visionary with a strong commitment to public service. Professor Ali Pate has the experience, credibility, and proven competence to deliver transformational leadership.”
The association listed Professor Pate’s past roles as Director-General of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and Minister of State for Health, as well as his current position as Coordinating Minister, where he initiated programs like free ambulance services for pregnant women across Nigeria.
They also referenced his prestigious academic and international credentials, including his tenure as the Julio Frenk Professor of Public Health Leadership at Harvard University, and his service as Global Director for Health, Nutrition, and Population at the World Bank Group.
“Professor Pate’s vast experience in health sector reform and development—from Africa to East Asia and the United States—is an asset Bauchi needs at this critical time,” the statement said.
The association stressed that the state faces a number of challenges, from weak infrastructure and limited job opportunities to the need for a responsive legislature and improved access to healthcare, education, and housing.
“Professor Pate represents hope for a responsive executive and a reinvigorated legislature. His leadership will address the challenges of today and build a stronger Bauchi State for tomorrow.”
Calling on all well-meaning citizens and political stakeholders in the state, the group said: “Bauchi stands at a crossroads. The time has come for competent, transparent, and visionary leadership. We believe Professor Ali Pate is the right man for the job.”
The statement concluded with a passionate appeal:
“His candidacy is not just about winning an election—it is about securing a better future for Bauchi. We call on him to heed the voices of the people and answer this call to serve.”
