The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has formally inducted 101 newly graduated medical doctors from the Benjamin Carson Senior College of Health and Medical Sciences, Babcock University, Ilisan Remo. The ceremony, held on August 12, 2025, at the university’s Amphitheatre, was presided over by MDCN Registrar, Dr. Fatima Kyari, represented by Tijani Ali. Among the inductees, 32 earned distinctions, with 24-year-old Chisom Okafor emerging as the best-graduating student, securing 10 distinctions.

In her address, Kyari charged the new doctors to remain committed to the service of humanity, maintain professional ethics, and shun all forms of malpractice. She stressed that medical practice, while not always financially lucrative, is a noble calling that commands respect in society. “You must let integrity be your watchword, be diligent, and always seek a second opinion when necessary,” she advised, urging them to practice empathy, respect for colleagues and patients, and absolute confidentiality.

Kyari further encouraged the inductees to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s healthcare system, even if they travel abroad for further studies. She commended Babcock University for its high academic standards and quality resources, while assuring that the council would continue to uphold strict regulatory measures to maintain excellence in the profession.

Speaking earlier, Babcock University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Philemon Amanze, affirmed that the graduates had been thoroughly trained in knowledge, skills, and character. He expressed confidence that they would excel in their careers and make a positive impact on society.
