In a bid to reduce poverty and boost employment opportunities among youths and women, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT), Apata, Ibadan, has trained youth and women’s groups in poultry production, processing, and related value chains. The five-day capacity-building workshop, organised in collaboration with Halisa Multiengineering International Limited, was recently held in Okaka, Oyo State.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Provost of FCAH&PT, Dr. Adekoya Owosibo, expressed gratitude to God, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the project contractor, and the participants for their commitment to the programme. He urged attendees to remain focused and consider livestock farming as a viable and profitable source of income capable of transforming lives.

Also addressing the trainees, the consultant, Professor Adeboye Omole, encouraged particularly the youth to take the vocational training seriously to maximise its economic benefits. He emphasised that the skills acquired could serve as a pathway to self-reliance, improved livelihoods, and economic stability.

Participants lauded the initiative, noting that they had gained both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in managing poultry businesses for profit. They expressed optimism that the training would help reduce unemployment, improve welfare conditions, and contribute significantly to poverty alleviation in their communities.
