President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid tribute to the late Chief (Mrs.) Leila Euphemia Apinke Fowler, describing her passing as a monumental loss to Nigeria, especially the education sector where she made her mark as a trailblazer.

Mrs. Fowler, a distinguished lawyer, respected educationist, and founder of the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos, passed away at the age of 92. She was also the Yeye Mofin of Lagos and mother of former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler.

In a heartfelt condolence message released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extolled Mrs. Fowler’s lifelong dedication to education and nation-building. He noted that her pioneering efforts through the establishment of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls set the pace for academic excellence and female empowerment in Nigeria.

“Through establishing the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, the late Mrs. Fowler laid the foundation for academic excellence, nurturing generations of young women and empowering them to reach their fullest potential. Her legacy lives on in the thousands of lives she transformed. The nation is grateful for her remarkable impact. She will be fondly engraved in our minds,” the President said.

The President extended his condolences to the Fowler family, the staff and students of Vivian Fowler Memorial College, as well as the government and people of Lagos State. He prayed for God’s comfort upon all who mourn her passing and for the repose of her soul.

Mrs. Fowler’s death marks the end of an era, but her legacy as a visionary educator and role model for young women will continue to inspire generations to come.
