The letter, jointly signed by the branch Chairman, O. A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Ngwu Benitho, stressed that the strike would continue until all salaries owed to lecturers were fully settled. According to the statement, the decision was reached after a series of consultations and deliberations with members, who insisted that the non-payment of their entitlements had crippled their welfare and affected morale.

ASUU-FUOYE further accused the university management of failing to respond adequately to their grievances despite repeated reminders. The union maintained that it had exhausted all peaceful avenues before resorting to industrial action. It also urged the authorities to act swiftly to resolve the matter in order to prevent further disruption of academic activities on campus.

The strike is expected to significantly affect lectures, research activities, and other academic programmes at the university. Stakeholders, including students and parents, have expressed concern that the impasse, if not quickly addressed, could prolong the academic calendar and deepen the challenges already facing the education sector in Nigeria.
