Over 1,000 students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, whose admissions had been irregular and unresolved for years, can now breathe a sigh of relief following the intervention of the Edo State government. Many of the affected students, some dating as far back as the 2017 admission cycle, had graduated but were unable to proceed for the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme because they could not print their JAMB admission letters. The impasse, which left hundreds stranded, has now been resolved after the Edo State Ministry of Education engaged with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to the state government, all blocked JAMB profiles have been unlocked, ensuring that students can now access their admission letters and proceed with mobilization for NYSC. The intervention also addressed cases of undisclosed admissions, with officials confirming that the process is being resolved smoothly and without new complaints. The Vice Chancellor of AAU, Prof. Olowo, and the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, worked closely with JAMB to ensure all pending issues were cleared, putting an end to years of frustration for the students.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Iyamu congratulated the affected students and described the resolution as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to educational progress. He noted that Governor Monday Okpebholo has also approved the construction of two 1,500-seater lecture theatres and a 600-bed hostel capacity at AAU, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and learning conditions. He stressed that the state government will continue to make policies that bring relief to students and enhance the quality of education in Edo.

“The resolution of the admission issue in AAU, Ekpoma, is a product of the proactiveness of the state government and its determination to make our people smile,” Iyamu said. “One can imagine what the affected students went through, studying for years and getting stuck after graduation. Now, they can move on with their lives, and this administration is assuring everyone that we are here to make positive changes in every sphere. Just continue to support and cooperate with us.”
