Kano Govt Recruits Over 4,000 BESDA Teachers into Service

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has absorbed 4,315 former Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) volunteer teachers into the state’s permanent and pensionable teaching service. The governor formally presented appointment letters to the new recruits on Friday at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kano.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Yusuf urged the teachers to demonstrate dedication, integrity, and commitment to character-building in their pupils. He noted that the recruitment was in line with his administration’s consistent drive to rescue and reform the state’s education sector. The development follows earlier approvals of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025, all drawn from the BESDA voluntary teaching scheme.

To further strengthen the system, the governor announced the employment of an additional 2,616 teachers. He also launched a ₦200 million vehicle loan scheme and approved the distribution of 444 motorcycles and 300 computers to enhance school monitoring and evaluation across the state.

Yusuf equally directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils, the conversion of a school in Ungogo Local Government Area into a boarding facility, and the engagement of 17,000 watchmen in schools. Highlighting the impact of his reforms, he celebrated Kano’s recent recognition as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examinations.
