Kwara Approves Free Education for Visually Impaired Girls

The Kwara State Government has announced the immediate admission of visually impaired girls into Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin, with provisions for free education, feeding, and accommodation. The move is part of efforts to promote inclusivity and expand access to quality education in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the initiative underscores the state’s commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children. He noted that the policy reflects Kwara’s determination to ensure that no child is excluded from learning opportunities due to physical challenges.

Olohungbebe explained that the initiative is in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which advocates inclusive and equitable quality education for all. He emphasized that the programme is designed to break barriers and guarantee equal opportunities for children living with disabilities.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in his remarks, described the decision as a bold and compassionate step toward building an inclusive education system in Kwara. “Every child, regardless of physical challenge, deserves quality education and opportunity,” he said, assuring that his administration will continue to prioritise policies that strengthen inclusivity and human capital development.
