UNILAG to Launch 10 Emergency Hotlines, Enhance Campus Communication
The Quality Assurance and Servicom Unit of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced plans to inaugurate 10 emergency hotlines for students and staff across the campus. The Director of the Unit, Professor Olufemi Saibu, disclosed this during a press conference on Tuesday to mark the 2025 International Customer Service Week (ICSW) at the university’s Akoka campus. Saibu explained that the hotlines are part of a broader initiative to strengthen communication during emergencies and enhance the institution’s overall service delivery.
According to him, the new initiative will also include the introduction of a Closed User Group (CUG) phone network for all faculties, which will facilitate faster communication and coordination within the university community. “This strategic initiative will strengthen communication within the university in times of emergencies as well as between faculties, stakeholders, and the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Unit,” he said. Saibu added that the system would provide a more efficient feedback and escalation framework for addressing service issues and ensuring prompt responses.
Highlighting the unit’s achievements, the director noted that the Quality Assurance and Servicom Unit has significantly improved academic and service standards across the university through regular monitoring of lectures, examinations, and laboratory activities. “Over the past academic year, we have intensified our efforts to uphold academic excellence through robust monitoring of lectures, examinations, and laboratory sessions,” he said. Saibu revealed that 198 examinations were monitored during the 2024/2025 second semester, marking a notable increase from previous years and helping to curb malpractice while safeguarding examination integrity.
Professor Saibu also announced that the 2025 International Customer Service Week would feature several activities, including awareness campaigns, student fun games, competitions, a stakeholders’ forum, and an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding students and staff. He said the number of awards to be presented this year has increased from 34 to 44, reflecting the university’s commitment to rewarding excellence. UNILAG, he added, has participated in the global celebration of ICSW since 2019, reinforcing its dedication to quality service, accountability, and continuous improvement in academic and administrative performance.
