5,000 Students Benefit from Distribution of Educational Materials in Ondo

No fewer than 5,000 students from secondary schools in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State have benefitted from the distribution of educational materials by the council chairman, Mohammed Mutiu. Speaking during the exercise over the weekend, Mutiu said the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to promote quality learning and enhance academic performance among students. He emphasised that investing in education remains one of the surest ways to secure the future of young people and foster sustainable community development.

The distribution, which took place across several schools including Agboriki Comprehensive High School, College Ikare Secondary School, AUD Secondary School, Osele Comprehensive High School, Comprehensive Secondary School Ikare, and Ise Akoko High School, covered essential items such as textbooks, exercise books, and writing materials. Mutiu said the gesture was aimed at ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing quality education, adding that his administration would continue to prioritise educational support initiatives.

He urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to cultivate a reading culture and maintain discipline both at home and in school. The council boss also disclosed that plans were underway to renovate dilapidated classrooms and provide additional facilities to improve the learning environment. “Education remains the most powerful tool to fight poverty and insecurity, hence the need for all stakeholders to support government efforts in strengthening the sector,” Mutiu stated.

The initiative also received support from Eduminds Africa, a non-governmental organisation that promotes education and climate change awareness. Its founder, Miss Motunrayo Oyedele, said the partnership aimed to make education more attractive to students while easing the financial burden on parents. Teachers and students of the benefiting schools expressed gratitude to the council chairman and his partners, describing the intervention as timely and impactful, especially amid the current economic challenges.
