The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has called on the newly appointed Governing Council of the hospital to prioritise the recruitment of medical personnel and the upgrade of critical infrastructure to enhance healthcare delivery. The appeal came on Friday following the formal constitution of the new council by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as part of his administration’s effort to strengthen the state’s tertiary health institution.
Governor Makinde’s appointment of the Governing Council — chaired by Prof. Banji Oyeyinka Oyelaran — includes members Mr. Olatunde Gabriel Oyelade, Dr. Bello Adebayo Taiwo, Mrs. Isola Agnes Bolanle, Dr. Akintunde Kehinde Ayinde, Prof. Olawale Adebayo Olakulehin, and Prof. Adenike Olugbenga-Bello. The appointments follow the governor’s recent visit to the hospital, where he met with staff and pledged targeted interventions to stabilise operations and improve welfare.
In a statement signed by Dr. Adedokun Stephen, President of ARD LAUTECH, the association congratulated the newly inaugurated council, describing their appointment as timely and crucial to the transformation of the hospital. It said LAUTECH Teaching Hospital faces manpower shortages, ageing infrastructure, and increasing patient loads, challenges that require urgent attention. “Your appointment comes at a pivotal moment when visionary leadership and commitment are essential to chart a course toward excellence,” the statement read.
The association further commended Governor Makinde for his continued support, expressing optimism that the new council would collaborate with all stakeholders to reposition the hospital. “LAUTECH Teaching Hospital remains the only Oyo State–owned tertiary health institution and a key referral centre. Continuous infrastructural upgrades, strategic recruitment, and sustained training are vital to uphold high standards of medical practice,” the statement added, urging the council to “hit the ground running” in implementing reforms that will ensure lasting impact and efficiency.
