Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has announced plans for the construction of a new auditorium at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari Campus, Abuja, to cater to the growing population of law students.
Wike made the announcement on Monday during the official flag-off ceremony for the construction of new 600-bed hostels for male and female students at the institution. The minister said the new auditorium project was approved by President Bola Tinubu following discussions about the school’s overstretched facilities.
“When I discussed with my son who was recently called to bar, he told me that even with the new hostels, the existing auditorium may not take all the students. I raised this with Mr President last night, and he directed that another auditorium should be built for the Nigerian Law School,” Wike revealed.
He described the move as part of President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening legal education in Nigeria. According to Wike, the administration has already embarked on multiple development projects at the law school through the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Prince Lateef Fagbemi.
“This is leadership at work. In just two years, Mr President has intervened twice in the affairs of the Nigerian Law School. Each visit has brought tangible development — from staff quarters to student hostels, and now, the forthcoming auditorium,” he said.
The minister explained that the 600-bed hostel project, which includes 316 spaces each for male and female students, fulfills President Tinubu’s December 2024 promise to address the institution’s accommodation shortage. “When there is good leadership, there is nothing difficult in achieving results. We will ensure this project is completed within 12 months without variation,” Wike assured.
He also commended the Attorney-General for his proactive efforts in reforming the justice sector, including the ongoing digitisation of FCT High Courts. Wike further praised the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, for his dedication to advancing legal education.
In his remarks, Professor Chiroma expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the Attorney-General, and the FCT minister for their continued support. He said the new hostel project would go a long way in easing accommodation challenges faced by students, while the proposed auditorium would enhance the school’s capacity for academic and professional programmes.
