TechSis 2023: GetBundi offers free coding courses for 500 African women

GetBundi Education Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of GetBundi Education Technology Limited, has committed to the online training of 500 African women in coding from June 1 to August 31, 2023.

The Coding courses, which will be at no cost to the participants, come amidst a huge gap in digital skills in Africa, particularly among women, especially at a time when digital skills and tools have become increasingly essential to access services such as health, education, social protection, and financial services.

2023 Census: JAMB postpones Direct Entry continuation, gives deadline for ePIN

Ahead of the 2023 national census exercise, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has postponed the continuation of its ongoing Direct Entry, DE registration.

Announcing the postponement in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, the board Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, stated that the Direct Entry registration, which was scheduled to close in April, would continue on the 6th of May after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME and the national census exercise scheduled for 3rd to 5th of May 2023.

Fraud: Lagos govt raises alarm over impostor collecting levy for JSS3 exam

The Lagos State Examinations Board, on Monday, raised the alarm cautioning schools, students and their parents not to fall prey to an impostor, who allegedly acting on behalf of the board to collect N5,000 fee for practicals from each of the candidates, who want to sit for this year’s basic education certificate examination (BECE).

BECE is being organised by the Lagos State government as a terminal examination for all the JSS 3 students in both public and the approved private schools in the state.

Enugu vasity bans usage of short dresses

The school authorities of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu have banned the fixing of finger nails, eye lashes and the usage of other artificial materials on the body.

The institution, owned by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, also banned the wearing of short cloths by staff and students to work and lectures.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, announced this on Thursday in Enugu while addressing staff and students of the university in a meeting.

NUC boss clarifies status of Medical PhD, Medicine Fellowship

THE executive secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, has made clarification on the controversy between the recently introduced Doctor of Medicine programme and the original Medicine by Fellowship programme, saying one can never replace the other.

He noted that the Doctor of Medicine programme was introduced for an entirely different purpose from the original medicine by fellowship programme.

Rasheed gave this clarification at a meeting with the leadership of the National Postgraduate Medical College (NPMC), led by the President, Professor Akinsanya Osibogun, to his office, Abuja.

Rector warns new students against social vices

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, Samson Omogbehin, has warned the new students of the institution to stay away from social vices or be expelled from the school.

Omegbehin said the polytechnic had zero tolerance for all forms of indiscipline.

He said this at the seventh matriculation ceremony for the National Diploma and the second matriculation for Higher National Diploma students of the institution.

Offa Poly demands staff punctuality, dedication

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, Dr Kamoru Kadiri has said the institution must work in all shades of development, staff productive capacity, staff welfare, aggressive infrastructural development, and re-channeling of the academic programme and culture.

Dr Kadiri said this at the inaugural meeting with the staff assembly at the institution’s main campus.

The Ogun State Government has said retraining teachers will aid technological development in the nation.

Speaking at the training of 350 teachers from public and private primary schools in Ogun State organised by the Bunmi Adedayo Foundation, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Mrs Naimot Salako, emphasised that retraining of teachers was beneficial to the sector.

Poly students ask Buhari to end HND-BSc dichotomy before May 29

The National Association of Polytechnic Students has urged the President, Major General Muhammadu (retd.), to make efforts to end the dichotomy between the Higher National Diploma and Bachelor of Science holders before leaving office on May 29, 2023.

NAPS deputy Senate President, Adeniji Temitope, in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday, said it was no more news that Nigerian polytechnic students and polytechnic graduates “have been facing difficulties of dichotomy for the past years.”

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, has unveiled the Alumni National Unity Convention Planning Committee to plan and organise a national unity convention by July/August this year.

A statement by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, on Saturday said that this is sequel to the resolution of the lingering differences between the three contending factions of the alumni association at a stakeholders’ meeting convened at the instance of the Vice-Chancellor.
