In an exclusive interview with Crystal Education Media, Barrister Christopher Utulu, the Director of Jewel Model Schools in Kubwa, Abuja, candidly shared his insights on the formidable challenges confronting school owners amid the current economic realities in the country.

Barrister Utulu highlighted the myriad challenges faced by private school operators, emphasizing the strain imposed by economic uncertainties. “The current economic climate has placed immense pressure on private schools,” he expressed, noting the increased costs of operation, maintenance, and the growing demands for quality education.

A pivotal point in the conversation was Barrister Utulu’s stance on the tax regime proposed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) requiring private school owners to remit 5% of each child’s tuition fee to the government. Utulu firmly articulated his concerns, asserting that private school operators are already burdened with substantial taxes.

“The proposed 5% tax on each child’s tuition fee is an additional weight on the shoulders of private school owners,” Barrister Utulu remarked. He emphasized the need for a more nuanced approach to taxation, considering the broader economic challenges facing the education sector.
