In a significant development in the case of the missing 200-level undergraduate student of the University of Delta, Agbor, Miss Faith Omodon, the Edo State Police Command has reportedly apprehended two suspects believed to be connected to her disappearance.
Miss Faith Omodon was reported missing on March 30, prompting a frantic search by the inhabitants of Iru Egbede community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. According to reports, she was last seen leaving for the farm and did not return home.
Mr. Edward Omodon, the father of the missing girl, recounted the events leading to her disappearance, stating that she left for the farm in the morning but failed to return. The incident occurred during the community’s national conference, adding to the confusion and distress among residents.
The matter was promptly reported to the Abudu Police Division and subsequently transferred to the state Police Command for further investigation.
Confirming the arrests, Mr. Ikpoba Johnbull, head of the village vigilance group, revealed that two suspects were apprehended after tracking the phone of the missing girl, which was found in their possession. The suspects were reportedly arrested last Saturday afternoon.
According to Mr. Donald Isioma, the National Youth Chairman of Iru-Egbede, the police have recovered the missing girl’s phone and the motorbike she rode to the farm on the day of her disappearance. Additionally, one of the suspects, who is a member of the community, confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation at Okpaihe Police Station before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benin-city.
While the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that he was yet to receive official information regarding the arrests, he assured that investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding Miss Omodon’s disappearance.
The apprehension of the suspects marks a significant breakthrough in the case and offers hope to the family and community awaiting answers regarding the whereabouts of Miss Faith Omodon.
