The Nigerian Senate has approved the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State, following the adoption of the report by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND.

According to Senator Mohammed Muntari, who presented the report, the new institution will focus on equipping graduates with practical and theoretical knowledge in technology, applied sciences, and commerce, aiming to address environmental challenges, enhance productivity, and support economic development.

In addition to the Kaduna institution, the Senate also passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State. Both universities are expected to play a crucial role in advancing scientific and technological education in Nigeria, fostering national integration, and promoting skills acquisition among the country’s youth.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended lawmakers for their efforts in advancing these educational initiatives, noting that if signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, the new universities would contribute significantly to knowledge expansion, food production, and the nation’s overall progress.
