The Federal Government has developed modules integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) to enhance science and technology education in Nigeria.

Speaking at a 4-day workshop in Nasarawa State, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, represented by Deputy Executive Secretary, Prof. Bala Zakari, emphasized the need for creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving in basic education. He noted that the shift from STEM to STEAM reflects the importance of including arts in technical education.

Bobboyi explained that the new modules will guide teachers on applying STEAM methodologies in classrooms, aiming to prepare learners for the challenges of the 21st century. The integration of arts is expected to foster a more holistic approach to education, nurturing innovation and entrepreneurial skills from an early age.

The initiative is also aligned with the government’s goal to fast-track the Ministerial Strategic Plan, including the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring life-long learning and improving societal development through education.
