The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a plan to print one million science textbooks to improve the integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education at the basic school level.

Announced by Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Gas, Heineken Lokpobiri, the initiative will be funded through the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

Lokpobiri highlighted that the project aims to address deficiencies in key science subjects, including physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and computer science, which have hindered the country’s technological advancement. The textbooks will be distributed to all 774 local government areas and support 104 unity schools and 122 special schools nationwide.

This initiative has received approval from the Federal Executive Council and is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s educational foundation, ensuring students are equipped with the necessary skills to compete globally in technology and engineering fields.
