Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has delivered on his promise to pay a minimum wage of N85,000, surpassing the nationally approved N70,000.

The governor attributed this to an increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, from N11 billion to N27 billion. Rivers Civil Service Union Chairman, Chukwuma Osunna, confirmed that workers received the new wage in November, commending the governor for his commitment.

In Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf fulfilled his pledge to implement a minimum wage of N71,000, with the November salary reflecting the new structure. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) praised the state government for the wage adjustment and the upward review of the CONMESS salary structure for doctors in state hospitals.

The NLC’s Kano Chairman, Kabiru Inuwa, described the move as a significant step in improving workers’ welfare, while the NMA spokesperson, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Musa, lauded the decision to enhance conditions for medical professionals, emphasizing its impact on service delivery.
