The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo branch, has commenced an indefinite strike to protest the non-implementation of a 25%/35% salary increment approved by the Federal Government since January 2023. The union noted that while federal and 18 state universities have implemented the increase, LASU staff remain excluded.

In a statement signed by ASUU-LASU Chairman, Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, and Secretary, Dr. Sylvester Idowu, the union also criticized the ongoing salary disparity between LASU and two other state institutions—the Lagos State University of Science and Technology and Lagos State University of Education—despite recommendations from a government committee to harmonize wages.

ASUU-LASU called for student solidarity and urged members to disregard contrary directives suggesting normal academic activities. The union emphasized that its strike aligns with the Joint Action Committee’s decision and has been communicated to both the Vice-Chancellor and the Lagos State Governor, who is the university’s visitor.
