Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a stern warning to teachers, prohibiting them from engaging students in hard labour, whether on or off school grounds. The directive was contained in a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa. The governor emphasized that schools should focus on education and moral guidance, not manual labour.

The warning followed an unscheduled visit by the governor to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano, where he found students digging a toilet pipeline. Displeased by the situation, he confronted the headmaster, who explained that the work was assigned after school hours. However, the governor insisted that such practices must stop immediately.

Governor Yusuf assured the school’s management that his administration would renovate dilapidated structures, including the school’s mosque. He further directed that any infrastructure projects within schools should be submitted to the Ministry of Education or his office for proper execution, ensuring that students are not burdened with such tasks.

During his visit, the governor also inspected reconstruction projects at the Kano Printing Press, which was damaged during the End-Bad-Governance protests. Expressing concerns over substandard structures, he instructed the contractor to adhere strictly to project specifications to meet government standards.
