Jos, March 3, 2025 – The Plateau State Ministry of Education has shut down two private schools in Jos for failing to meet the required minimum standards.

The Director of Quality Assurance in the ministry, Mr. Sabastine John, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Jos. He identified the affected schools as First Academy in Jos North and Niret Private School in Jos South Local Government Area.

According to John, the closures were part of an ongoing verification exercise aimed at ensuring private schools in the state meet the necessary educational standards.

“We observed that the facilities in these schools were still in a deplorable state and their management had not adhered to the required standards,” he stated. “There is no conducive environment for quality teaching and learning to take place in these schools, and we cannot allow this to continue.”

The director emphasized that the ministry remains committed to improving the quality of education in the state. He urged private school proprietors to upgrade their facilities and comply with regulations to avoid similar actions.

The ongoing verification exercise is expected to continue across the state as the ministry intensifies efforts to maintain quality education for children in Plateau State.
