Lagos State University (LASU) is set to release 11,917 graduates into the workforce at its 28th convocation ceremony, which will run from April 3 to April 10, 2025. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to producing solution-driven professionals.
“As an institution, we take immense pride in the opportunity to send forth another cohort of market-ready graduates, solution-oriented individuals,” she said. “These individuals are well-equipped to make a meaningful impact in both the national and global sectors.”
Breakdown of Graduates
The graduating students include 971 diploma holders, 8,711 first-degree recipients, and 2,235 postgraduate students. Among them:
- Diplomas: 123 distinctions, 550 upper credits, 287 lower credits, and 11 passes.
- First Degrees: 192 first-class honours, 3,076 second-class upper, 4,397 second-class lower, 990 third-class, and 39 pass degrees.
- Postgraduate Degrees: 302 postgraduate diplomas, 1,132 academic master’s degrees, 639 professional master’s degrees, 125 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, and 37 professional doctoral degrees.
Recognizing Excellence
The university will confer honorary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians: Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and former Military Governor of Lagos State, and Otunba Olufemi Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, in recognition of their contributions to national development.
Additionally, Prof. Joseph Olagunju will be honored as a distinguished professor, and Nwosu Isioma, from the Biochemistry Department, will be celebrated as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.93.
Accreditation Milestone
Prof. Olatunji-Bello highlighted the institution’s success in securing full accreditation for 43 out of 44 courses during the last accreditation exercise conducted in late 2023. “Only one course received interim accreditation, confirming that LASU remains at the forefront of academic excellence and innovation,” she said.
She reiterated LASU’s vision of becoming the top university in West Africa through continuous advancement in quality teaching and research.
The week-long convocation ceremonies will celebrate not just academic achievements but also LASU’s strides toward national and global recognition.
