Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has once again demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development and human capital investment with a generous donation of N15 million to two educational institutions in Bauchi State.

During a visit on Friday, Obi presented N10 million to Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and N5 million to Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School. The gesture, he said, is part of his ongoing mission to support institutions that shape the future of Nigeria through health and education.

Addressing students and staff at the nursing college, Obi underscored the pivotal role nurses play in any nation’s healthcare system. He described nurses as the invisible yet irreplaceable backbone of the sector, stressing that their impact reaches beyond hospitals and into the very heart of national well-being.

“You are very important to the society, you are very important to this country called Nigeria,” Obi told the audience. “If there is anything we can do to support what you are doing, we need to do it. Today, we know that the number one measure of success of any nation is health—and you can’t measure health without thinking of the human infrastructure. The nurse is important. The nurse knows the patient, the nurse owns the patient, the nurse is everything.”

Obi also revealed that he supports and visits around 70 nursing institutions annually, highlighting his belief that investment in healthcare education is essential to national progress.

Leaders of the two institutions, Aminu Danmaliki of Malikiya College and Alhaji Usman Abubakar of Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School, both expressed heartfelt gratitude to Obi for his timely support. They assured him that the donations would be transparently used to uplift the quality of teaching and learning in their respective schools.

The visit adds to a growing list of Peter Obi’s post-election philanthropic interventions across Nigeria, particularly in underserved communities where basic services and infrastructure remain a challenge.
