The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to human capital development through inclusive and skills-based education, with the inauguration of the IsDB–UBEC Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kiru Local Government Area, Kano State.

Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, said sustained investment in education remains a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformation agenda, aimed at equipping Nigerian children with relevant skills for global competitiveness. She noted that the establishment of bilingual model schools reflects the government’s determination to provide learners with linguistic, vocational, and digital competencies.

“Multilingual education prepares students to participate effectively in diverse social and economic systems, while also reducing out-of-school rates and improving learning outcomes through modern teaching methods,” she explained.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Secretary to the State Government Umar Ibrahim, pledged continued collaboration to ensure the effective use of the facility. He expressed confidence that the school would expand access to quality education and significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children in Kano State and beyond.

The governor highlighted recent reforms, including a declared state of emergency in education, aimed at addressing long-standing challenges such as poor standards and limited access. He stressed that education must remain a top priority, especially for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, noting its critical role in building competencies for a rapidly changing global environment.

Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, said the Kiru facility is one of 30 Bilingual Education Model Schools being constructed across nine states, with Kano hosting four, located in Doguwa, Ganduje, Ungoggo, and Kiru. The schools integrate English and Arabic literacy with technical and vocational education, ICT-driven learning, and secure boarding facilities.

Garba described the inauguration as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing safe, inclusive, and quality education for every Nigerian child, assuring that UBEC would continue to support the schools through teacher engagement, effective management, and regular monitoring.
