The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of e-registration and payment for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), marking another significant step in the state’s drive to modernise education administration through technology.According to the Lagos State Examinations Board, the registration exercise will begin on Monday, January 26, 2026, and end on Friday, March 27, 2026. The initiative is designed to eliminate the need for school owners and administrators to visit the Board physically, allowing all processes to be completed seamlessly online.
Speaking on the development, the Registrar of the Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, explained that all schools are required to use the newly issued School Codes for the exercise. He stated that Public Junior Secondary Schools are expected to download the Offline Data Capturing Application from https://bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete their registrations.
Orunsolu added that Approved Private Junior Secondary Schools, institutions operating with Special Permission, and Continuing Education Centres (CEC) must carry out payment and registration through https://pay.examsboard.com.ng, where they will also generate their login credentials for the process.
The Registrar disclosed that the registration fee has been fixed at N10,000 per candidate for Approved Private Junior Secondary Schools and Approved Public Continuing Education Centres. He noted that Junior Secondary Schools operating with Special Permission and Private CECs will pay N15,000 per candidate.
He further advised schools presenting candidates with special needs, including visual impairments or albinism, to notify the Board formally and ahead of time to allow for proper arrangements before the examination begins.
While urging schools to strictly comply with the outlined guidelines, Orunsolu warned that late registration could attract penalties. He assured stakeholders that further details would be communicated through the Board’s Zonal Officers.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination remains a critical assessment for students completing junior secondary school in Lagos State, determining their progression to senior secondary education. Over the years, the Lagos State Examinations Board has increasingly adopted digital platforms for registration and result processing, improving access and reducing administrative delays.
The introduction of e-registration for the 2026 BECE aligns with the state’s broader digital transformation agenda in the education sector, aimed at promoting transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in examination management. Thousands of candidates across public and private schools are expected to benefit from the streamlined process, which reduces manual errors and saves valuable time.
This latest move builds on previous technology-driven initiatives by the state, including the launch of an online teacher recruitment portal by LASUBEB in late 2025, reinforcing Lagos State’s commitment to delivering quality education through innovation.
