The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter, has declared an indefinite strike in protest against the non-payment of lecturers’ March 2026 salaries and the continued absence of the Earned Academic Allowance.

The decision, announced on Wednesday, April 8, followed mounting concerns among academic staff who say their patience has been stretched after repeated delays. The union has directed all members to immediately withdraw from lectures, examinations, and official meetings until further notice.

Branch leaders explained that the action came after due consultations and approvals from both the National Executive Council and the local congress, stressing that all internal procedures were followed before resorting to the strike.

In a statement issued by the union, lecturers expressed disappointment that their March salaries remain unpaid despite waiting for a resolution. They emphasized that the delay was not caused by the university’s internal processes, as the bursary department had already completed its responsibilities.

Instead, ASUU pointed to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation as the source of the problem, alleging that the delay in releasing funds has directly affected their pay.

The union warned that the recurring issue could threaten stability within the institution, as frustration continues to grow among staff. To ensure total compliance, ASUU also disclosed that a monitoring team has been set up to enforce the strike directive.

The development raises fresh concerns about disruptions to academic activities at the University of Jos, with students likely to bear the brunt if the impasse is not swiftly resolved.
