Residents of Abaranje in Alimosho Constituency II, Lagos State, have marked a major milestone with the inauguration of their first public secondary school, bringing long-awaited relief to families in the fast-growing community.

The newly commissioned Senator Oluremi Tinubu Secondary School ends years of limited access to public secondary education, offering students the opportunity to learn closer to home and easing the burden of long-distance schooling.

The project, facilitated by the lawmaker representing the constituency, Kehinde Joseph, has been described as a significant achievement in grassroots representation. Speaking at the event, Joseph revealed that the initiative was inspired by a charge he received in 2015 from Senator Oluremi Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of the people.

“In 2015, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, charged us to always put the people first and work tirelessly for their benefit,” he said, noting that the message has guided his approach to public service.

He dedicated the school to the students and urged the community to take ownership of the facility by protecting and maintaining it.

Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving education through initiatives such as the Eko Excel programme, which focuses on enhancing teaching quality through structured training. He added that the one-storey building was constructed to a high standard to support effective learning.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, commended Joseph for delivering the project, emphasizing that true representation lies in addressing the real needs of constituents.

In a keynote message delivered on her behalf by Alawiye King, Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised the collaboration between the state government and the lawmaker. She noted that the school, designed to accommodate over 700 students, would not only expand access to education but also help steer young people away from crime and social vices.

The inauguration has been widely welcomed by residents, who see the new school as a transformative development that will open up opportunities for the community’s children and contribute to long-term social progress.
