President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated 14-year-old Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe for emerging as the 2026 African Spelling Bee Champion in the Junior Category, describing her achievement as a moment of national pride and a reflection of Nigeria’s growing investment in education and youth development.

Oreofe, a student of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, clinched the continental title after outperforming contestants from over 20 African countries at the competition held in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her victory also came with a $5,000 scholarship award to support her education.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the young champion’s consistency, discipline, and determination, noting that her success was built on years of steady academic progress and resilience.

Tinubu highlighted her journey through various academic competitions, including second-place finishes at the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee and the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee, as well as a fifth-place finish at the 2025 African Spelling Bee and second place at the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee, before finally clinching the continental title in 2026.

According to the President, her victory not only brings honour to Nigeria but also serves as a powerful motivation for young Nigerians to pursue excellence in academics and personal development.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through policies aimed at improving literacy, expanding opportunities for students, and supporting youth competitiveness on the global stage.

Tinubu also expressed confidence that with sustained investment in education and talent development, more Nigerian youths will continue to excel in international academic and innovation platforms.
