President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of appointments across key education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.

According to a statement by the President’s Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while the current Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will remain in office.

For the NBTE, the president named Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman, alongside the reappointment of Prof. Idris M. Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term, effective April 10, 2026.

Tinubu also approved the appointment of Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term. He succeeds the pioneer rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.

In addition, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been granted a final five-year term as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, having first been appointed in September 2021.

Prof. Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of NBTE, is a retired professor of Educational Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University. Prof. Salako, a renowned academic and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), is credited with revitalising the institute through improved research governance and international collaborations.

Dr. Binfa, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and has lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

Under Prof. Anunobi’s leadership, the National Library has undergone significant reforms, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library. She has also advanced efforts toward completing the National Library headquarters in Abuja.

The presidency said her reappointment is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, the completion of major projects, and the implementation of the institution’s 2025–2030 strategic plan.
