The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to secure the release of teachers and pupils abducted in Oyo State, deploying advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to support ongoing rescue operations.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Suleiman Yusuf, disclosed this while addressing stakeholders, noting that technology is playing a critical role in tracking criminal activities and enhancing intelligence gathering.
According to him, security agencies are leveraging modern digital tools and intelligence-driven strategies to locate the victims and ensure their safe return. He assured families of the abducted teachers and pupils that every available resource is being deployed to achieve a successful rescue operation.
The victims were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has generated widespread concern among parents, education stakeholders and residents.
DIG Yusuf explained that the integration of ICT into policing has significantly improved the force’s capacity to combat crime, monitor security threats and respond swiftly to emergencies. He noted that technology-driven policing has become essential in addressing complex security challenges, including kidnapping and banditry.
He further stated that the police remain committed to safeguarding schools and protecting learners, teachers and other education personnel across the country.
The police chief urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing investigations and rescue efforts.
He also appealed to citizens to avoid spreading unverified information capable of undermining security operations, stressing that collaboration between communities and law enforcement agencies remains crucial in the fight against crime.
