The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to take industrial action at Yobe State University over the non-payment of outstanding entitlements and the failure to implement agreements reached with the state government.
The union expressed concern over what it described as persistent delays in addressing critical welfare issues affecting its members, warning that continued neglect could disrupt academic activities at the institution.
ASUU officials said several demands, including the payment of salary arrears, earned academic allowances and other outstanding benefits, remain unresolved despite previous engagements with the authorities.
The union also accused the government of failing to fully implement agreements aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of academic staff, noting that patience among members was gradually running out.
According to ASUU, the unresolved issues have negatively affected staff morale and could impact the quality of teaching, research and other academic responsibilities if not urgently addressed.
The union called on the state government and university management to take immediate steps to honour their commitments and prevent an avoidable crisis within the institution.
ASUU maintained that dialogue remains its preferred option but stressed that members would not hesitate to explore all lawful avenues, including industrial action, if the concerns continue to be ignored.
The development has raised concerns among students and stakeholders, who fear that any disruption to academic activities could affect the institution’s academic calendar.
The union urged the authorities to act swiftly in the interest of industrial harmony and the continued stability of the university system in the state.
