Over 10,000 schools shut down due to banditry in North — Shehu Sani

Former senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Senator Shehu Sani has claimed that over ten thousand schools in the North have closed due to kidnapping and terrorism.

He made this known at Arewa House, Kaduna during the 15th Ralph Opara Memorial Lecture on Girl Child Education, organized by the National Association of Seadogs, Pyrate Confraternity (NAS/PC).

Senator Sani noted that “Most of those who are engaged in banditry and terrorism today, are young people in their 20s and 30s. Oyebanji increases monthly subvention for Ekiti tertiary institutions

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved a significant increase in the monthly subvention to state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, revealed in a statement on Monday that Governor Oyebanji has raised the monthly subvention from N767.8 million per month to N1.27 billion.

Jigawa govt releases over N774m scholarships to 26,836 students

Jigawa state scholarship board has received over N774 million as scholarship allowance for the 2023 academic year for the students studying in the institutions across the country.

This was disclosed by the executive secretary of the Jigawa state Scholarship board, Malam Sa’idu Magaji in an exclusive interview with Tribune Online in Dutse, said the board had already commenced the payment.

The executive secretary explained; “The state government has released a total sum of N774,810,085.00k being the allowance for 26,835 students studying at different higher institutions in Nigeria”.

How poor planning, lax regulation breed establishment of illegal schools in Lagos

Lagos is not just the most populous state in Nigeria; it is the economic nerve centre of the country. At its disposal is a humongous Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) when compared with what other sub-nationals in Nigeria generate as IGR. Despite its IGR, Lagos State government is still grappling with providing basic infrastructure across the state, including adequate schools for its teeming populace, with many Lagos residents preferring to send their children to private primary and secondary schools even as many of the schools are operating illegally since they are not approved by the state government. GBENGA SALAU reports on the implications and dangers of government allowing these unapproved schools, estimated at over 12,000, to continue to thrive.

Ade Kindergarten School on Sikiru Alimi Street, Off Ogunlana Road, Ijeshatedo is one of the many private schools in Lagos State. Like many of its kind, majority of the teachers are not qualified to teach. The school is housed in a rented residential apartment of just a room with other pupils not accommodated within the one room staying outside to learn.

The school lacks and did not meet up with the basic requirements that the state government set for a school in Lagos to be operational. Yet, the school has been in operation for some years now. Abducted Ekiti State schoolchildren, teachers regain freedom, driver killed

After seven days in the den of the kidnappers, pupils and members of staff of Apostolic Faith Group School, Emure-Ekiti, were, yesterday, set free by their abductors.

Those who regained their freedom included five students and three members of staff of the school while the driver, identified as Taye Rasaki, was killed by the dare-devil kidnappers.

Oyebanji appreciates Tinubu, security agencies over release of kidnapped school children

Ado-Ekiti—The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Sunday expressed his appreciation President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Security agencies and Ekitikete for their support which led to the timely release of the kidnapped pupils of Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary school, Emure Ekiti.

Ondo Varsity Female Student Found Dead In Her Room

A 300-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Miss IfeOluwa Adekunle, has been found dead in her room in a house outside the university campus.

Her lifeless body was discovered on Saturday and investigation by the police revealed that the IfeOluwa was attacked by yet-to-identified assailant(s).

The unfortunate incident was said to have caused panic and apprehension among the students of the university, particularly female students.
