On May 27, 2024, Pinky and the Brain School in Dutse, Abuja, held a vibrant Cultural Day celebration to mark Children’s Day. Students, pupils, and teachers showcased diverse cultural traditions.

In an interview with Crystal Education Media, the school’s proprietor, Mrs. Juliana Usman, emphasized the importance of children being aware of their cultural heritage and values and appreciating Nigeria’s cultural diversity. Mrs. Usman mentioned the absence of large-scale government-organized activities to celebrate Nigerian children, contrasting it with the past when parades and march-pasts were a common feature of Children’s Day.

“The days when we would participate in parades organized by the government are gone. We would go to the stadium and march, but since those opportunities are no longer available, we decided to celebrate our children ourselves. Our aim is to showcase and celebrate our culture and the diversity of our children,” she stated.

The head of the school expressed concerns about issues of insecurity. “We prefer to celebrate here at the school, jointly with the parents. We prepare a variety of delicacies and share them among ourselves, teachers, and children. It’s an annual event that we always enjoy and feel more secure doing.”
